Roger Ebert said that Bruckner performed the role confidently. Bruckner was nominated for the "Best Female Leading Actress" by the Independent Spirit Award. She was raised by three sisters and one brother. Hungarian is her mother tongue and she teaches it often to keep proficient. Bruckner is a Californian in Hollywood born daughter of a Hungarian dad and Russian mom. Her maternal grandparents are German. In Hungary, her parents first met and then immigrated into America in 1984 through an asylum settlement in Italy. She is the younger sister of two brothers. She also has two other sisters.
